Note: If clicking the button above does not open your email app, your computer might not have a default mail client set up. Please follow the setup guide below to fix it.

How to Check Your Default Mail Client

Follow these quick steps depending on your operating system:

For Windows 11

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows Key + i.
  2. Click on Apps in the left sidebar.
  3. Select Default apps on the right side.
  4. In the search bar at the top (under "Set a default for a file type or a link type"), type MAILTO.
  5. The app listed directly below the search box is your current default email client. Click it if you wish to change it.

For Windows 10

  1. Open Settings using Windows Key + i.
  2. Click on the Apps category.
  3. Select Default apps from the left sidebar.
  4. Look near the top of the right-hand panel under the Email heading to see your current client icon.
  5. Click the icon to choose a different application from your installed programs list.

For Apple Mac (macOS)

  1. Open the built-in Mail app on your Mac.
  2. Click on Mail in the menu bar at the very top left of your screen, then select Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions).
  3. Go to the General tab.
  4. Look for the dropdown menu labeled Default email reader.
  5. Select your preferred mail application (such as Mail, Microsoft Outlook, or another supported reader).

Using Webmail Instead? (Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo)

If you prefer using webmail services in your browser instead of a desktop app, your web browser must be configured to allow sites to handle mailto: links.

Browsers block direct links to internal settings. Click any address below to copy it, then paste it into your browser's address bar:

  • Google Chrome: chrome://settings/handlers
  • Microsoft Edge: edge://settings/handlers

If you are using a different browser, open your browser's Settings, navigate to privacy or site settings, and look for protocol or app handlers.
